Con-Artists's News

Posted by Con-Artists - April 5th, 2009

Long time no news. I've neglected you poor Newgroundians for quite a while. Lots happening...

I've got 2 games on the go at the moment. A sequel to Warfare 1917 and a new project that's a bit different than my usual fare. On top of that I'm working on a project with Joey Betz from armor.

My latest work is up on the portal for judgement now. As I mention in the comments, it's my little tribute to the action RPG genre. It's fairly light on the RPG and more on the action side of things.

It was an interesting development as I didn't go in with my usual strong idea, it all began as a bow defence type game and kind of grew as I learned a few new tricks.

What now? Well, there's a Warfare sequel and a Last Stand game in the pipes as well as a brand new IP that I'm currently putting together. You'll see both the Warfare sequel and this new game in the next 2-3 months.

Until then, play the crap outta Sin Mark, will you?

Warfare 1917 is up on the portal now, head over and check it out. I've been bombarded with questions about it and certain other series' that I'm responsible since I re-emerged into the light to put this thing out there. So let's clear a few up:

Warfare - Will be a series of games. I've got ideas for at least two other time periods. What those are you'll have to see. Please don't send me ideas, I've got plenty of my own.

Last Stand - There will not be a Last Stand 3 in the forseeable future. I repeat, NOT. There will however be a sequel and it will be different. Better different, not bad different. I love the series too and get a lot out of creating them, so it will be back in a few projects time.

I'm working on this stuff full time now over at Armor Games, so you should see something new from me every few months as opposed to once every 8 months.

It's also the reason that the German Campaign is an exclusive to Armor Games as well. It's a bit of an extreme exclusive as it's a big chunk of the game, probably not something I'll do again to such an extreme.

I've been getting one or two PM's a day from people pretty consistantly for about a year now asking me:

"How do I make games?"

It was frustrating me that I didn't really have an answer to that other than, "learn stuff". So I've decided that because of how much love the community has given me with my first two Flash games, that I'd give a little bit of love back.

Over on the Armor Games Blog, I've started what will be a series of posts on game design and construction called Games 101. It'll eventually go over everything that I've learned over the years from planning games, to programming, design and illustration, animation, sound work, the lot.

This won't be a series for those who know how to make games, it's for people who are really looking at just getting into it.

The first installment covers where I got started: Modifying Games. So head over and have a look.

It's out!

Well, it's been out for a few weeks on Armor Games. We took the opportunity there to get it right before unleashing it on the public. Thanks to everyone who headed over there and left feedback, it helped immensely in refining the game and picking up some glaring issues.

So head over to the portal and enjoy while I continue my research for my next title which will be coming sooner rather than later.

The Last Stand 2

Cheers, Con.

I am a liar. Just throwing that out there. I'd said I was done with zombies, with defence games. I'd said that I was moving on. Well, I lied.

The genre roped me back in. The success of the first game (which I still can't grasp) was amazing, so I couldn't help but make it better and I started working on it again.

So here I am. 5 months into development on The Last Stand 2 and it's almost done.

For a feature list and screenshots head over to the ArmorBlog.

I'm not working on the fighting game any more.

I've recieved some PM's of late that are bordering on hate mail because I wasn't working on a sequel to The Last Stand, which I find good and scary. Mostly scary though that people are that passionate about Flash games. To those who've sent me such mail, I applaud your commitment, but yeah, get out more. Really.

I am working on something though, and you will hear about it soon, promise.

I've been through a really busy 6 months. Things have been pretty crazy all round.

The Last Stand has been entered into the Independant Games Festival at GDC and I'll find out tomorrow if it makes the 29 finalists where it'll be in the running for best browser based game. The game has been hugely successful above and beyond anything I'd imagined. It made news on Kotaku and was on the front page of Digg for a while as well. A lot of this is due to the Newgrounds fans and I appreciate you all even though I might take 4 months to respond to PM's.

My work has kept me incredibly busy with 3 fairly major multiplayer flash titles being released before the holidays. This has kept me away from making my own games. Producing games all day, then coming home to do it is just too much. As a result, my fighting game has been shelved, as has a few other prototypes that I've been working on. I'm sure at least some of them will come back at some point.

But, there is good news. Things are slowing down again and as a result I'm back at it. More in a few days.

And no, it's not the sequel to The Last Stand.

I've had a lot of people asking what I've been up to and figured this was the best way to respond. Thanks to everyone that PM'd me with support, really appreciate it.

What I am working on is something completely different, which I feel is justified given that I spent 8 months working with guns/zombies. Don't fret though, it's a genre that I plan on revisiting at some stage.

In the meantime, here's a few EARLY screens from my latest project.

Yes. I am working on something.
